Alaska launching service between
Islands, Sacramento and San Jose
November 10, 2009
On the same day Alaska Airlines is launching flights between Oakland and Kona, the carrier announced this morning that it plans to expand its California-Hawaii service next spring with flights to the Islands from San Jose and Sacramento.
Starting March 11, 2010, Alaska will inaugurate thrice-weekly service between San Jose and Maui, followed the next day by four roundtrips a week to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Daily flights between Sacramento and Maui will begin March 26, 2010. Alaska launched four weekly roundtrips between Oakland and Maui yesterday.
“In just two years, Hawaii has become a major part of our route network,” said Steve Jarvis, vice president of marketing, sales and customer experience. “With the new service we’re announcing today, Alaska Airlines will have 73 round-trip flights a week serving the Hawaiian Islands, including 21 flights between Hawaii and the Bay Area and Sacramento.
Alaska began service to Hawaii in October 2007. With these new markets, about 11 percent of Alaska Air Group’s capacity is now dedicated to Hawaii flying.
Alaska is offering introductory one-way fares of $169 between San Jose-Maui, San Jose-Kona and Sacramento-Maui, for tickets purchased by Nov. 24, 2009. Vacation Packages start at $599 to Maui and $523 to Kona. (Vacation prices are per person, based on adult double-occupancy, and include roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations for three nights.)
