Alaska Air Group Chairman and CEO Bill Ayer rang the opening bell this morning to mark the start of trading today on the New York Stock Exchange. Ayer was also interviewed on the news channel CNBC.
Air Group executives are in New York City to host the company’s first investor’s conference. This morning’s event starts at 9:30 a.m. Pacific and 12:30 p.m. Eastern time. Employees may listen to the presentation and question-and-answer session on the Web at www.alaskaair.com/investors.
“The conference is a great opportunity for us to tell our story and outline our strategy for the future,” said Shannon Alberts, managing director of investor relations. “We’ve invited dozens of investors, industry analysts, bankers and money managers who follow Alaska Air Group.”
The first time a company officer rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange was Feb. 23, 1983, the day the airline met the qualifications for listing on the Big Board. Ayer rang the opening bell a few years ago, standing next to a handler holding a bald eagle from the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka.
