Help make Santa's magic
come alive for Spokane kids

November 12, 2009

Volunteers for fantasy flight
Some of the Horizon Air employees who volunteered for last year's Santa Fantasy Flight.

Alaska Airlines volunteers are sought for this year’s “Santa Fantasy Flight” event in Spokane, where underprivileged children are treated to a flight to the “North Pole,” a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, games, food and gifts. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12.

Volunteers are needed to act as elves, coordinate games and food, help with setup and tear-down, and more. You may volunteer to help at the station or on the flight or sign up through the Spokane Fantasy Flight organization to be an elf, guard or help at the North Pole.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the station or on the flight should contact Horizon Administrative Assistant Melodee StDennis-Asbury via FirstClass.

Those interested in working as an elf, guard or to help at the North Pole must sign up by filling out this form and e-mailing it to help_santa@spokanefantasyflight.com. Because of the work with children, volunteers must submit to a background check.

Additional flights between Seattle and Spokane will be added on the day of the event, so volunteers from the Seattle area will be able to return that night if they wish, said Dave Burris, Horizon’s customer service manager in Spokane.

Last year, about 35 Horizon and Alaska employees volunteered during the event, hosting 60 Spokane-area children from transitional homes and shelters.

To learn more about the event, read the Alaska’s World article and photos about last year’s event. Also visit the Santa Fantasy Flight Web site.
